Minerals

MO in the Minerals industry assists clients across the complete project life cycle from concept to plant decommissioning.

Our focus has grown from our roots in process, process control and automation engineering with their strong systems engineering focus so as to apply this systems approach to civil, structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation at a design management and/or commissioning level.

Projects.

  • Santa Rita Definitive Feasibility Study Project

    Santa Rita Definitive Feasibility Study

    Studies

Mirabela Nickel discovered a large nickel sulphide deposit at Santa Rita in Brazil in 2004. MO contributed to the definitive feasibility study undertaken by GRD Minproc in 2007 that resulted in the mine being bought into production in 2009. MO were responsible for the design and cost estimates for the control systems and instrumentation of proposed facility and developing the process control philosophy.

  • Phu Kham Process Control Project

    Phu Kham Process Control

PanAust were looking for improvements in throughput and recovery at their Phu Kham copper / gold operation in Laos and engaged MO to review their process control strategies and fine tune the control system to maximise their returns. In addition MO trained local operators and engineers to undertake these tasks ongoing.

  • Kanowna Belle Process Control Project

    Kanowna Belle Process Control

Barrack’s Kanowna Belle Gold mine has been operating 20km north east of Kalgoorlie since 1993 and regularly engages MO to review their process control strategies and fine tune the control system.

  • Cadia Commissioning Project

    Cadia Commissioning

Newcrest’s Cadia Valley Operations completed a major expansion in 2012 by bringing on-stream the Cadia East Underground. MO was engaged in 2011 to initially manage the recovery of the control system package that had become critical path and then took on a coordination role to minimise holdups between the construction and commissioning teams.

  • Ban Houayxai Project

    Ban Houayxai

PanAust’s Ban Houayxai gold / silver operation is located in Laos. During the latter stages of design MO was engaged to review the process control strategies to be implemented to ensure ease smooth operation.

Mineral Industry Success

While MO Consultants prides itself on ensuring all our clients are satisfied some projects become standouts as is the case with:

Newcrest Cadia East Expansion

What made this project particularly satisfiying was that Newcrest were working to a very tight schedule and despite the efforts of the design engineer and the project management consultant the delivery of the modifications and upgrade package to the site wide process control system had slipped behind schedule and ended up on the critcial path.  Newcrest's Project Director contacted MO knowing our background in managing and delivering complex projects and specifcally those related to control systems. After intial discussions and a site visit MO outlined a plan to Newcrest to bring the package back on schedule, Newcrest were sutiably impressed with the plan and engaged MO ongoing to deliver on the outcomes.  Those outcomes were achieved and the control system package had no impact on the final project delivery start-up date.
